Ahoy mateys! IKEA caused quite a splash with their remote-controlled rubbish-clearing boats. The boats use cutting-edge technology to suck in plastic and other rubbish as they sail. IKEA fans will notice that the design is based on a much-loved IKEA product – the SMÅKRYP bath toy. In February 2019, Londoners were invited to take a turn at captaining the boats and help clean the waterways of the Thames in the process. The activity was part of a series of events celebrating the opening of IKEA Greenwich; IKEA’s most sustainable UK store.
