Meet our newest team member: Gill Huber, Managing Partner
Having joined the Oystercatchers team at the beginning of July as Managing Partner, Gill Huber has already (and unsurprisingly to many) become a very popular member of the team. We wanted to find out more about her, so we caught up with Gill in our 'meet the team' Q&A.
Hello Gill! Tell us a bit about yourself:
I’m from London and live in leafy Chiswick with my husband, son and dog. I have spent the last 20 years working in media and advertising in planning, strategy and client leadership and I have been lucky enough to work with many leading brands, brilliant agencies, and fantastic people over the years.
What would say is your personal tip for a client when in the agency search and select process?
Preparation, preparation, preparation, while it might not sound exciting I think this is key; the work put in by everyone at the beginning to explore and fully understand what is needed, and what success looks like for all stakeholders, ultimately saves time and makes sure everyone has clarity and is working towards the same goal.
And the same for an agency in the process?
Anyone who knows me knows I am no fashion icon but I believe Coco Chanel said ‘before you leave the house look in the mirror and take one thing off’. When working on a pitch there is always more you can add into your presentation, one more thing that the client really ‘must see’, but this can mean you lose the core points of your recommendation and doesn’t leave enough time for the important interaction between both teams where clients get to see your personality and passion and you all see how you would work together.
What’s one of your favourite campaigns and why? Perhaps something from your childhood or something from your career….
There are so many great campaigns over the years and great ads - I still know every word to Milky Way’s ‘The Red Car and the Blue Car had a race’. However, the Nescafe Gold Blend romance of my youth I remember fondly, a time when everyone was waiting for the next chapter in the story, not bad for a 30” TV spot.
What are your interests outside of work?
A year in lockdown certainly hammered home how much I love seeing my friends and family; at home, in a park, the pub or a restaurant. Outside of that you will see me running (not very fast), reading, I rarely leave the house without a book. Walking the dog and if I have my way any time on any beach makes me very happy.
What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’
I knew that joining the A-Team was never going to be an option and deduced becoming the next Sherlock Holmes wasn’t happening either. But it became clear quite early on that a career in advertising and media matched my skills and interests and I have never looked back.
We are so thrilled to have Gill leading the Oystercatchers team!
