This Girl Can: Disney Partnership

This Girl Can has created a series of short films, powered by Disney, showing mums and their kids doing home-based exercise routines to their favourite Disney tracks, offering a fun way for mums and kids to be active through play and helping children develop healthy attitudes towards activity.

The campaign is based on Sport England's research showing that six in ten mums would feel guilty about taking time to exercise, rather than spending time with their family. We therefore created “routines” that mums and kids that unlocked activity through fun, based on the ways real mums and kids get moving.

It was important to us that there be no “wrong moves” to our routines. So we invited a few families from across England to dance around to Disney tracks they love, including songs from The Little MermaidMoanaThe Jungle Book, and the new Disney Channel Original Movie, Descendants 3. The instructions that appear onscreen allow families to put their own spin on our routines, and (especially in the case of younger kids) to engage their imaginations.

We created films for younger kids (4-8) as well as older kids (8-11), which were executed differently to appeal to different age ranges. Our films for younger kids rely on instructions that are grounded in the world of the films and open to wider interpretation, with the films serving as a guide.  Our films for older kids are more grounded in the world of dance, but are pitched at an accessible level and phrased in a way where everyday kids and mums can follow along.
