Dan joined the business in 1996 as a Media Exec at Universal McCann after studying at Watford College. He realised he was a hopeless Media Planner and moved to the Investment team a few years later.

He rose up the ranks rapidly and became UM’s Head of Press a day after his 30th birthday, looking after £75m worth of print billings on accounts such as Sky, L’Oréal, Mastercard, Tiffany & H&M amongst others.

Dan was promoted to the Board in 2008; but after 13 years at UM, he wanted out and the collapse of Lehman Brothers that heralded the official start to the global recession provided his opportunity. On December 19 2008, Dan was made redundant…he was very happy.

Dan and his business partner Dave Barnett founded December 19 in 2010. They knew the commoditisation of media, created by the growth and power of the so-called media ‘super groups’ was having a negative effect on the craft of quality media planning and buying for all advertisers.

December 19 is a media planning and buying agency built on business karma. Clients are asked to pay a fair fee, and as a result they receive a media neutral service, free of media owner rebates or any other hidden dark practices which have only been brought to light in recent reports by The ANA in America.
