Picture this – the stellar line-up at last night’s Oystercatchers Club – Catherine Kehoe, Managing Director Group Brands and Marketing at Lloyds Banking; David Wood, CEO Mothercare; Mary Macloed, Senior Client Partner at Korn Ferry & former MP, and iconic portrait photographer and director Rankin.

All on stage at Soho’s Ham Yard Hotel with our CEO, Suki Thompson, to reveal personal and professional insights into strong leadership in uncertain times. We were joined at our new red-carpet Club venue, Ham Yard Hotel, by 200 strong senior business leaders. We were joined by brand owners and agency chiefs from the likes of:  Barclaycard, BBC, TGI Fridays, Tesco, Jaguar Land Rover and British Red Cross.

Hierarchy, said the panel, is out-dated. Transformational leadership needs to inspire though behaviour.

Resilience, transparency, a tenacious appetite for change and strong moral compass – our guests agreed – are the magical qualities of modern leadership. Mothercare’s David Woods added that leaders need to be able to create a context where people can deliver to the best of their ability. Suki commented, “leaders need to unlearn management and relearn managing humans.

A little food for thought from last night on leadership:
Be the change you want to see in the world – Mary Macloed
Find a brilliant team of talent to grow with you. Trust the team and be loyal – Catherine Kehoe
Competence and optimism in leadership leads to change- David Wood
Honesty is what collaboration is all about – Rankin

What leadership maxim do you follow? asked Suki
David: Churchill “never, ever give up”
Catherine: In God we trust. Everyone else – please bring data
Mary: be the change you want to see in the world
Rankin: lead by example

A full film from our leadership evening will be posted shortly.

In the meantime, a huge thank you to our magnificent panel and all our guests.
