The first of this year’s Club evenings kicked off in true Oystercatchers style. Over two hundred senior marketers and agency heads took to the luxurious London May Fair Hotel once again to take part in leading industry discussion, to engage with their peers and have a good catch up with old friends and new.

Our dynamic panel: Lynda Thomas, CEO, Macmillan; Lisa Gilbert, CMO, IBM UK&I; Jon Wilkins, Executive Chairman, Karmarama and Simon Kingsnorth, Global Head of Digital Marketing talked on the topic of transformation – chaired by Suki Thompson.

Chemistry on stage crackled – as the panel, and audience, agreed, and disagreed, on how to successfully create and manage business transformation. Keys points we took home:

The customer always comes first: stay in the mind of the consumer- read what they read, watch what they watch, shop where the shop. Ditch your office and talk to the people who are buying your brands.

Growth and comfort do not go hand in hand: be inspired by different categories to be inspired and think big

Turn your team into storytellers:  convert the sceptics into champions and they will be your strongest advocates

Encourage people to be bold and brave: if you embrace epic failures – you’ll promote a culture of trust

Take your people on the journey. Explain the nature of transformation and the reasons behind it. Internal communications is all too often neglected – and people simply don’t engage.

Do not be distracted by bright, shiny things. Tech is a great enabler, in the right place, at the right time.

Above all – have fun – it’s a privilege to be part of marketing.

A huge thank you to our wonderful panellists Lisa, Simon, Lynda and Jon. And to all our guests.

Our next Club event is on 15th March where the topic is around embracing tech. Daniel Gilbert, Brainlabs; Lindsay Pattison, CEO, Maxus Global and Julian Brewer, Head of Digital Sales & Products, TSB will be joining us on stage – with a further name to be announced shortly.
