Last night, UK marketing movers and shakers gathered at The Barbican Centre to celebrate the 2013 Oystercatchers’ Awards. Trophies were carried off by Creature of London, TMW, DigitasLBi and Isobel

Last year we launched the awards simply because we wanted to celebrate innovative new business practice, and to recognise the blood, sweat and tears involved along the journey.  Much to our delight, the event turned out to be a hit.

So, once again we brought together a jury of senior UK marketers to judge what they consider to be ground-breaking work across four categories.  Over 100 entries were submitted and our jurors, to a man and woman, agreed that the standard of entries was higher than ever.

And the results:  Best Agency RFI went to Creature of London,  with runners up BBH and Sapient Nitro; TMW landed Best Agency Website,  and runners up Zone and WCRS; Best Agency Film went to DigitasLBi, runners up Geometry Global and PHD; while Isobel took home Best Agency Credentials with runners up VCCP, Iris and Universal McCann. Huge congratulations!

We asked the jury for a few insights into best practice, and this is what they had to say:

“We were looking for an agency which had really personalised their response. We wanted to see real creativity rather than unnecessary opulence.” Sharry Cramond, Group Marketing Strategy & Brand Director, Tesco.

“The best videos were simple: indelibly imprinting a single-minded message in our minds and leaving us wanting more.”  Scott Morrison, Marketing & Commercial Director, Diesel

“The best creds were warm, succinct and communicated simply what the agency is all about.” John Allert – Group Brand Director, McLaren

“Websites that stood out let their personality and culture shine through. The most engaging tended to apply a ‘less is more’ approach. The biggest ‘aha’… how many agencies failed to optimise their websites, whether for mobile, tablet or search.” Yianni Papdopoulous, Managing Director, Omega Pharma, UK & Ireland

Suki Thompson shared her belief that how an agency positions and sells itself is a sign of its own marketing capability and vital to how clients select agencies.

Congratulations to our winners and runners-ups, and thank you to everyone who made the evening such a great event.
